The Digital Studio is a project in constant development. It's aim is to take advantage of the recently developed (and affordable) digital media, and encourage the most adventurous creative use of these 'new tools'.
As a physical resource the Digital Studio has a separate room allocated in the North Wing. The D.S. resource room has two mini d.v. cameras, a non linear editing suite (Premiere), as well as a range of supplementary digital and analogue equipment.
Probably more significant than the physical resources has been the development work associated with the regular North Wing projects and events. Since the beginning of 2002, and in tandem with the North Wing's development as a centre for experimental work, Blackbox Arts & Media has been promoting opportunities for artists and companies to access Digital Studio equipment. Some projects that have emerged have been purely digitally based, but Blackbox has a particular interest in encouraging cross discipline work, so many artists and companies have accessed the Digital Studio and incorporated multi-media elements into their work.
In addition to the above Blackbox has also organised Digital Studio training schedules that introduce participants to the basics of production and post-production work. These schedules include tutoring on Premiere software, and the next course is provisionally scheduled for mid August 2007.
